Program Rules

The Donor Advantage Program was developed to encourage and recognize FREQUENT blood, platelet and plasma donors.  Although the program requires at least one donation attempt every 13 months to keep your points active, we hope that you will make multiple donations each year to earn points, enjoy the gifts of the program and, most importantly, ensure that we always have an ample blood supply for patients in need. 

How Does the Advantage Program Work?

Each time you save lives by making a blood, platelet or plasma donation you’ll earn Advantage points redeemable for a wide variety of gifts or gift cards. You can also donate your points to selected charitable organizations.

Whole Blood or Automated Red Cell Donations

Because red cells last just 42 days, it is important that donations be made every day to ensure a fresh and ample supply. Certain "critical periods" which coincide with holidays and vacation seasons are especially important.

Whole Blood and Automated Red Cell donations made during these critical periods will earn an additional 50 Advantage points.

Platelet Donations

**EARN MORE POINTS EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2016**

• 100 Additional Points for Platelet donations made on Saturday, Sunday and Monday
• 50 Additional Points for Platelet donations made on Friday

Because Platelets have just a five day shelf life, it is important that donations be made every day to ensure a fresh and ample supply. Certain "critical periods" which coincide with holidays and vacation seasons are especially important.

Platelet donations made during these critical periods will earn an additional 75 Advantage points:

• Fri, May 26, 2023 – Tues, May 30, 2023

• Sat, Jul 1, 2023 – Wed, Jul 5, 2023

• Fri, Sep 1, 2023 – Tues, Sep 5, 2023

• Wed, Nov 22, 2023 – Sun, Nov 26, 2023

• Fri, Dec 22, 2023 – Tues, Dec 26, 2023 

• Fri, Dec 30, 2023 – Tues, Jan 2, 2024

Plasma Donations

Calendar Year Bonus

Frequent donors can earn Advantage bonus points each calendar year. Make at least four donations, of any kind, and you will earn 75 bonus points. Each automated red cell donation (Alyx) will count as two donations toward your calendar year bonus.

Redeeming Points Is Easy

When you are ready to redeem you'll see a wide array of gift and gift card choices beginning at 600 points. You may redeem all or some of your points as you wish. You can also donate your Advantage points to selected charitable organizations. Advantage points are not transferable and are not redeemable for cash.

Don't Let Your Points Expire

The Advantage Program offers generous gifts for your active participation as a blood, platelet or plasma donor. You can donate whole blood every 56 days or automated red cells (Alyx) every 112 days. You can donate platelets every three days up to 24 times each year.

TO RETAIN YOUR EARNED POINTS YOU MUST MAKE AT LEAST ONE BLOOD, PLATELET OR PLASMA DONATION EVERY 13 MONTHS. IF YOU DO NOT MAKE ANY DONATIONS FOR A 13 MONTH PERIOD YOU WILL FORFEIT ALL REMAINING ADVANTAGE POINTS. THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE WAIVED WHILE ANY DONOR IS TEMPORARILY OR PERMANENTLY DEFERRED FROM DONATING.

NOTE: Advantage points will be posted 5 days after your donation. Points for multiple platelet products will be based on final test results in our laboratory, not on the attempted procedure at the time of donation.
